Harley-Davidson Electra Glide (1965) The Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, introduced in 1965, is an iconic American touring motorcycle that set the standard for comfort and style on the open road. It was the first Harley-Davidson model to feature an electric starter, a groundbreaking innovation at the time, which gave the bike its "Electra" name. Powered by the 1,200cc "Panhead" V-twin engine, the Electra Glide delivered smooth, reliable power, making long-distance travel more enjoyable and accessible. The bike's design was characterised by its large, sweeping fenders and comfortable saddle which provided a distinctive look that has become synonymous with Harley-Davidson touring models. The 1965 Electra Glide also marked the final year of the iconic "Panhead" engine before the introduction of the "Shovelhead" in 1966. With its blend of classic styling, innovative features, and legendary Harley-Davidson craftsmanship, the Electra Glide quickly became a favourite among touring enthusiasts and remains a beloved model in Harley's extensive lineup.
