The 1984 Kawasaki GPz900R, also known as the Ninja 900 in some markets, was a groundbreaking motorcycle that redefined the sportsbike category and set new benchmarks for performance and design. Powered by a 908cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine, the GPz900R produced 115bhp, making it the fastest production motorcycle of its time, with a top speed of around 150mph. The bike's engine was compact and lightweight, allowing Kawasaki to design a more aerodynamic and agile chassis, which contributed to its exceptional handling. The GPz900R was also the first motorcycle to feature a 16-valve cylinder head, which improved efficiency and power output. The bike's design was sleek and aggressive, with full fairing that not only enhanced its aerodynamic efficiency but also gave it a modern, race-inspired look. The GPz900R was famously featured in the movie Top Gun, further cementing its status as an icon. The 1984 Kawasaki GPz900R is celebrated as one of the most important motorcycles in the history of sportsbikes, recognised for its innovative design, performance capabilities, and enduring legacy.
