[art #308]. Limited Edition Print by Steve Dunn.
The 1981 Laverda Jota 1000 was a superb motorcycle that
became a symbol of speed and power in the 70s and 80s. Named after a
Spanish dance in triple-time, the Jota was a high-performance version of Laverda's 1000 3C
and was developed in collaboration with Laverda's UK importers Slater
Brothers. The bike was powered by a 981cc triple-cylinder engine that
produced 90bhp, giving it a top speed of around 140mph, making
it the fastest production motorcycle of its time. The Jota was
known for its brutal power delivery and distinctive exhaust note, which
made it the favourite bike for speed freaks. The orange 1981 model featured here incorporated
several refinements, improved suspension and brakes, also a more
comfortable seat and riding position. The bike's
design was muscular and aggressive with a bold angular tank and a
3-into-1-into-2 exhaust system that emphasised its performance-oriented nature. The
Laverda Jota 1000 from 1981 remains an iconic motorcycle, revered for
its speed, power, and the adrenaline-fuelled experience it offered to
all those that rode it.
