The 2005 season saw Valentino Rossi in great form riding the Gauloises Yamaha YZR-M1 to his fifth consecutive MotoGP World Championship. The YZR-M1, painted in its famous blue livery with Gauloises cigarette branding became an extension of Rossi himself as he dominated the field. Yamaha's M1, featuring an 800cc inline-four engine, was known for its impeccable handling, smooth power delivery and balanced chassis, attributes that Rossi used to full advantage.
Rossi's riding style, defined by his ability to maintain blistering corner speed while keeping the bike steady under braking, made the M1 the perfect match for him. Throughout the 2005 season, he faced stiff competition from riders like Max Biaggi and Sete Gibernau, but Rossi's mastery of Yamaha's agile machine made him nearly unbeatable. The refined electronics, including traction control, allowed Rossi to control the amount of the rear tire's slippage while exiting corners, a crucial advantage on circuits like Phillip Island and Mugello.

Rossi's 2005 campaign was a showcase of skill, precision, and control with his signature racecraft and celebrations captivating fans worldwide. His partnership with the Gauloises Yamaha would go down in history as one of MotoGP's most iconic duos.
